Discover the traces of a once powerful and rich kingdom

Due to its convenient location near the the ruins of ancient Pergamum, the city of Bergama is a popular destination. Whereas the city itself has a rather sleepy and agricultural charm, the archaeological site of Pergamum is worth a trip. Ancient Pergamum used to be one of the most powerful and richest kingdoms during its height in the first century. Especially its carpets, cotton and gold contributed to the exceptional wealth of the ancient city.

Today you can visit the site, admiring ruins of an old Acropolis or the Asclepion.

Best time to go: daily 8.30am to 5.30pm (7.30 during the summer time)

Quickest way to get there: Fly into Izmir and take the bus from there
