This city is mentioned in The Canterbury Tales as producing some of the best cutlery in the world.

Sheffield is one of the largest cities in England, born out of the Industrial Revolution. Like other cities in the North, Sheffield has undergone a period of regeneration that only improved an already livable city - thanks in part to funds from the E.U., transport hubs have been given a facelift and sculpture parks have revitalized the city center. This "Greenest City in the UK" is also on the outskirts of the beautiful Peak District, ensuring that you can be walking in the midst of moorland and ancient landscapes in under 20 minutes. But Sheffield has a lot to offer the intrepid party-goer - its major student population comes with all the trappings of nightlife, culture and kebab shops that go with it. Not to mention a world-famous music scene, with artists ranging from Def Leppard to Joe Cocker to the Arctic Monkeys. Sheffield may not have the big-name landmarks that London or Edinburgh have, but it's a worthy stop on any tour through the UK.
