Upper East Side

The home of old New York wealth

All of the most-coveted addresses in New York - Park Avenue, Madison Avenue, 5th Avenue - can be found in the Upper East Side. This is some of the most expensive real estate in the country, with the rich and famous snapping up $75 million townhouses without even blinking twice. Though the neighborhood is fraught with scores of conservative 'ladies who lunch' and Abercrombie-decked prep schoolers, art lovers flock to Museum Mile - the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim are the heavy-hitters, but collections at the Frick, Whitney and Cooper-Hewitt are also worth a visit. The Upper East also has some of the best high-end shopping in the city - Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, and Chloe are only a few of the names that can be found on Madison Ave. Together with easy access to Central Park, it's no wonder that New York's old money have stayed here for generations.
