Dubai Creek

Beyond the aluminum shiny high-tech buildings is piece of traditional Dubai, with 100-year-old adobe houses and wind towers. The districts of Deira and Bur Dubai with the historic Bastakiya district -- here is where the city was born. A boat ride across Dubai Creek provides great views and, with the right selection of vehicles, a more authentic experience. This best way to do this is to use an abra (water taxi). These open wooden boats sail with about 20 people from shore to shore. The ten-minute ride costs only 1 dirham. If you want to cruise for longer than that, you can use a larger dhow ferry, which are often promoted as restaurant ships for tourists. There is plenty to discover in the smaller lanes of both districts: for example, the gold and spice souk on the Deira side and the Dubai Museum on the Bur Dubai side.

  • Hier ist Dubai noch so wie man sich die Arabische Welt vorstellt: charmant-alt und wuselig. Die Überfahrt auf einem knatternden Boot kostet umgerechnet nicht mal 10 Cent. Lohnt sich!
