Vimanmek Mansion

The world's largest teakwood palace

Located in lovely Dusit Palace Park, King Rama V ordered that Vimanmek Royal Palace, which had previously been situated on the island of Koh Si Chang, be disassembled and rebuilt in its present spot. His obsession is easily understood - the building is a stunner. After 1932, Vimanmek was used largely as a storage space, but since its renovation in 1982, it has been turned into a museum that showcases memorabilia of the Royal family. Dozens of rooms hold a wealth of old photos, antiques, paintints, jewelry, and gifts presented to the King from various heads of state.
